PLAYSTATION VUE
PSVUE was originally developed by Sony for the popular game system, and has since been developed as a separate app that will run on most streaming players, so don’t be put off by its gaming name or background. The number of channels varies depending on which plan you choose and range in price from $44.99 for the entry level (Access) up to the $79.99 for the Ultra plan. If you want more sports, however, you’ll need the $49.99 plan (called Core), and you’ll get many of the same channels you can get with the $40 monthly plan from other providers.
Once again, all the local Denver channels are included, except for PBS.
The “Cloud DVR” recording functionality is not time restricted, but there are many channels that will not allow fast forwarding through commercials, including FOX, FX and the local Denver NBC affiliate. The FOX restriction is common to a number of streaming services, so that is not unique. The system will keep an unlimited amount of content for up to 1 month. That seems a very short time, especially if you like to record a series of 10-12 shows and then binge watch them (like we do!).
PSVUE allows up to 3 simultaneous streams. Note that you will need more than 1 “player” to take advantage of the additional streams, although the “player” can be your iPhone, computer or a hand-held device.
PSVUE is the one streaming service that we did not test because of the higher price at $50 per month.
