Streaming Services 2

SLING TV

Sling TV was announced in 2015 and is a division of DISH network. You don’t need a DISH subscription, a satellite dish, or any relationship with DISH to subscribe to the service. However, the channel selection and some elements of the interface are very similar to what you see in the DISH service. So if you are familiar with DISH, you’ll become comfortable with SLING pretty quickly.

This is not to be confused with the original SLING concept, which was to stream content from your local TV or cable remotely to you if you were out of town.

Sling has two “tiers” of service called SLING ORANGE (Disney, ESPN and more) or SLING BLUE (FS1, FX, Bravo and more). Either Orange (or Blue) is the cheapest streaming service with multiple traditional cable channels that we’ve found at only $25 per month. If you add Orange + Blue, you are up to $40 per month.

For an extra $5/month you get 50 hours of DVR, but this is only available as an add-on. Some other services offer this for free.

If you prepay for 2 months of Sling TV, you can get a Roku stick for free. There are other promotions as well, so be sure to check them out.

NOTE: Sling Orange allows only 1 stream at a time! This means that, even if you have multiple players, you can only watch 1 thing at the same time – not good if you have family member who want to watch shows at the same time. With Sling Blue you get 3 streams. Orange + Blue gets you 4.

Most local channels are available in the Denver area EXCEPT PBS, which is available for free on the You Tube app or the PBS app. It’s also available Over The Air (OTA) with an antenna.
